Cherokee Oaks - Bea Stacy

by Dolores Caprino

At the time of Bea Stacy's death in 1981 there were 43 Cherokee Oaks champions, 13 multi-Best of Breed (BOB) winners, two Best in Show (BIS) winners, two Sires of Merits (SOM) and two Dam of Merits (DOM). To achieve DOM status was quite a feat, as Bea Stacy was very firm in her believe that each bitch should have only two litters.

Bea Stacy was the guiding hand of this kennel. She possessed a large amount of "horse sense" and an uncanny  feel for the right stud for a bitch. Bea never sacrificed a loving home for any of her puppies "just so they could be shown." So 43 champions is really quite remarkable, especially for people of such strong values and limited means.

Bea Stacy had no children of her own and was very fond of Dolores Caprino's daughter, Marianne, who loved Boxers and liked to show. Bea promised to give Marianne the most promising puppy in her kennel by Marianne's tenth birthday to show in junior handling. She gave her Cherokee Oak's Mary Rose, a CH. Cherokee Oak's Warlord daughter, who was whelped in August 1974. Marianne put a major, plus Best of Winners (BOW), Best of Opposite Sex (BOS) and Best Puppy on the ten-month old puppy at the Boxer Club of Southern California Specialty. Mary Rose finished at 15 months.

As Bea Stacy's health began to fail, she asked Marianne to continue on with her kennel name. So they have continued to use the Cherokee Oaks name in her honor. They do very limited breeding but have finished one dog in each litter, all owner-handled by Marianne.

Following Bea's guidelines, they never breed a bitch more than two times and never sacrifice a loving home for a puppy for the sake of showing.

Following is a list of 41 Champions that Bea Stacy bred
